An Open Treasure Box!
Matthew 6:21 NKJV, For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
FACT: What you focus on, spend your time and money on, what you read, watch, play and listen to, are the MOST important things to you e.g.: God, family, church, sports, hobbies, work, genre of books, music and the list goes on.
Those things I just listed are what FILL your treasure box. Your HEART IS your “Treasure Box,” and as an adult you get to choose what you will fill it with. In Matthew 6:19-21, Jesus is telling us to choose wisely, to lay up for ourselves treasures in heaven… Children need to be taught what’s important, if you don’t teach them, someone else will! You have a short window of opportunity to prepare them for life, it will be over before you can blink. A child’s heart is an “Open Treasure Box”. Open as in, ready to receive all kinds of information. They are little sponges and WANT to learn! Bedtime is the BEST time to hear your kids hearts. Make it count, leave time to read a scripture, a devotional and verbally interact with them each night. Their hearts are the MOST open as they get in bed and settle down for the night. Given the chance, they will open up their treasure box, (their hearts) and talk about challenges they’ve faced during the day. It could also be a time to recount how special their day was, remembering the things they’re thankful for. It’s a time to speak into their lives and impart Godly character. Then conclude with prayer, and worshipful song (You can pray and then give them an opportunity to pray). Their “Open Treasure Box” is waiting for information! Help them fill it with the Word of God, encouragement, Godly character, mentoring them while you can!
