Anchored In God’s Word Part I
2 Chronicles 20:20, NASB, …put your trust in the Lord your God and you will be established. Put your trust in His prophets and succeed.
The Bible is full of more than just stories, and history! It literally gives LIFE, FAITH, HOPE, JOY, PEACE, and STRENGTH! I want to share a testimony of how God’s WORD carried me through a difficult season! How it anchored my soul: my mind, my will and my emotions! As parents we need all the help we can get in raising our children. The Bible has answers for everything we face in life, we just need to practice applying it. Hang on as I share “the rest of the story” in these next three blog posts. It will be worth the wait!
Getting to the office like any other day, it was a Tuesday and I was at church preparing for Ladies Meeting. Robert received a call from the coach that our son Preston, (who was in eighth grade) injured his ankle during football practice and said it looked serious. Robert was not nearby at the moment, so I told him to pray and I would go check on him. When I arrived his ankle was HUGE, and it looked deformed! My first response… I laid my hands on his leg and prayed a SPECIFIC prayer, speaking to the bones, tendons, and ligaments in the Name of Jesus! We put him in my car and headed to a Sports Medicine clinic recommended by his coach. We went to 3 different doctors and specialists and they determined it was a broken tibia at the ankle, which included the growth plate (a serious situation according to the doctors ). I had Preston at Cook Children’s hospital and they were preparing for a closed reduction procedure by 3:30pm! He had a FULL leg cast and had to be in bed for the next 3 days with his leg elevated on five pillows to keep the swelling down. This is almost unheard of and it was SUPERNATURAL how God orchestrated this day for Preston to get everything done in just a few hours time! But this was just the beginning process!
I picked up my Bible and God directed me to a chapter that I had NO IDEA would keep me so grounded through the next several months as we walked through this situation to the end. II Chronicles 20 was my lifeline for the next six months! I literally read this chapter EVERY DAY! It gave me strength and direction, and helped me keep my eyes on the Lord through it ALL! Sometimes we feel overwhelmed by circumstances that we have no control over. This chapter gives a series of actions Jehoshaphat took that ultimately caused him to be victorious over the battle. He positioned himself to seek after God through fasting, prayer, and worship. He listened to God, believed God, and obeyed God. Then they rejoiced when the victory came!
The next several days and weeks we continued to lay hands on his ankle, and declare it was healed even though in the natural the cast was still there, and the pain wasn’t totally gone yet. The doctors did their part by keeping a close eye on it through X-rays along the way. After six weeks, he was able to remove the full leg cast and get a shorter one, hallelujah! The doctor pointed out a “growth ring” on the bone, he said he could tell Preston had grown after the break had taken place. It looked like a growth ring on a tree trunk. I literally noticed and mentioned to Preston that he looked taller after he got out of bed during those 3 days of bed rest!
