Anchored in God’s Word Part III

2 Chronicles 20:12, NASB, …”For we are powerless before this great multitude who are coming against us; nor do we know what to do, but our eyes are on You.”

Picking up where I left off in Part II of Anchored in God’s Word…Stop here and go back, if you haven't read Parts I and II.

We were ALL still standing in FAITH that Preston’s ankle was completely healed without complications, in fact, at this point I thought we were on the downhill side. That we were moving along, and the next doctor appointment would prove that what we had been praying would be a documented miracle!

Eight months later, as we went for what I thought was going to be the LAST doctor visit, there was another battle ahead! This is where the chapter in 2 Chronicles 20, TRULY kept me grounded just as Jehoshaphat had three different enemies (Moabites, Ammonites and the Meunites) headed his way, I felt a “great multitude” was coming against us! In 2 Chronicles 20:2, The report was…”A great multitude is coming against you from beyond the sea, out of Aram and behold, they are in Hazazon-tamar.” It was BIGGER than anything Jehoshaphat could do in the natural. Verse 3 says He was afraid and turned his attention to SEEK the LORD, and proclaim a fast! After the doctor sent Preston for a new X-ray and after looking at the results, he now had concerns about the way the bone had healed! From the X-ray report the doctor determined that the tibia was “fused” to the growth plate where the break had taken place. No more growth could take place on this side of his ankle, which meant he would be walking on the side of his foot as he continued to grow. NOT okay with me! The doctor said we would need to do another surgery VERY soon to shutdown the growth plate on the other side of his ankle. He said this very matter of fact, “It could cause his legs to be different in length by 1/2-1 inch.” STILL NOT okay with me! I was so shocked at this report! After all, I had been praying and standing in FAITH! I didn’t have any peace about anything that was being said by the doctor! In my heart a BOLD tenacity took place and I was NOT going to be swayed. I determined to believe God for healing in Preston’s ankle, by a creative miracle! God could grow his leg out if the surgery was performed, I’ve seen miracles like this with my own eyes! Either way, my FAITH was that whatever was needed for Preston to walk normal, would be done! This was what I was declaring in my heart, out of my mouth, and saying louder than any thoughts that would try to arise in my head. I was “SEEING” Preston healed in my minds eye, and declaring NOTHING is too hard for God! I had a “Word” from God, “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.” It was no longer a broken bone, it was a healed bone. Funny, I know, I don’t ever use the word “ain’t,” but that is how I HEARD it, and continued to stand…

“This hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and steadfast, and which enters the Presence behind the veil,” Hebrews 6:19 NKJV

There was so many things that weighed into this decision! It was such an important decision that could affect Preston for the rest of his life. After much prayer as a family, with our church staff, with friends we knew would stand with us and agree for healing and answers we continued to walk this out. Jehoshaphat was my example of what to do; seek the Lord by prayer, fasting, worship, and listening. A couple of weeks went by and I called the doctor to ask if we could wait a little longer and get another X-ray. I was believing for a different report. He was concerned that waiting was not a good option, but he listened and agreed. The results of this X-ray pointed out a “growth ring” where the break had taken place. It proved that Preston had grown in the area where the break was and BEFORE it was completely fused together! That’s a MIRACLE right there! After I told the doctor I was not at peace with the procedure, he responded by saying, “Let me ask my colleagues for their input.” I was so relieved, as he agreed and we continued to pray for direction from the Lord.

We were able to wait another 4 months! We were anticipating a good report, AND WE GOT ONE! This was now almost one YEAR later after the broken ankle bone! What a journey, what a LONG time to STAND for MIRACLES to happen, BUT GOD! This X-ray proved his bone was straight, and reported any more growth was expected to happen on the other end of the bone! Four months after that, we had another visit and another report! This was the FINAL GREAT report! The ankle bone is STILL straight, the growth ring still visible, nothing else needed! WHAT a miracle! Preston played football that entire season and what a GREAT season it was! There is still so much to the story that I didn’t include, but that would be a book and not a blog post :-)!

Stand and keep standing through every battle, the answers don’t always come the way you expect, but they will come, and you can have the victory through it ALL! His WORD will ANCHOR you, give you strength, and will keep you grounded as you walk through seasons of life!
