Salt is Tasty!
Matthew 5:13 (NASB), “You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt has become tasteless, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled under foot by men.”
Robert and I did a cleanse once, as a step toward better health and for 10 days we ate veggies, fruit and nuts ONLY! No salt for flavoring! It was TERRIBLE! I got to the point where I didn’t want to eat any of the vegetables anymore because they ALL tasted the same, sweet and bland! I felt really good afterwards, but have never done that cleanse ever again, LOL!
The Bible talks about how important it is for us to be “salt and light” to the world. If we aren’t, then who will? We aren’t the light, HE is! We are to be carriers of the LIGHT and Jesus is the one we get our salty flavor from, it’s not from us. It starts with each one of us individually, making sure we stay FULL of the Word of God by daily reading our Bibles, taking time daily to get in His presence and being connected to a church where we can spiritually grow. He warns us not to hide our LIGHT or allow it to diminish. It has nothing to do with our great nature, personality, or works, but has everything to do with the NATURE and goodness of God.
In the Bible, Jesus always speaks to us in such practical ways. The disciples had to physically be with Jesus to hear from him. We are SO blessed today. We don’t need prophets or priests to talk to God on our behalf, we can have a personal relationship with Him. We can also read our Bible to get wisdom on any subject! Hallelujah! But we still need each other, so we don’t get weird, or off track.
There are practical ways we SHINE our Light and show our saltiness … it’s evidence of being a carrier of the Light in our everyday lives. It’s how we STEWARD our lives in business, our homes, in raising our children, our friendships, and more. The Bible also calls it FRUIT (Galatians 5:22-23). We don’t judge people, but we see and know them by their fruit. This is not a condemning message, but one to encourage you to grow. We are certainly not perfect in any of these areas. There are times and seasons when raising a family may seem difficult but, if you can make ONE change, you’re growing!
I’m leaving you with a practical checklist. Ask the Lord if you need to take a step up in any of these areas and become a better steward by being salt and light to the world, so it’s not all talk. Action speaks louder than words …
Be a GOOD STEWARD:
Home - clean and maintained (purpose to make your bed upon rising in the morning)
Finances - be a tither, giver, and have a financial spending plan
Automobiles - clean, empty trash and fast food containers, change the oil, and other routine maintenance
Family - pray together, spend time together, love unconditionally
Your life matters, you really do have a sphere of influence, and YOU can make a difference in others lives.
PRAY THIS: Father, I’m so THANKFUL for the MANY ways you have blessed me and my family! I’m opening my heart to you now, asking you to show me, and help me in the area of stewardship. I’m expecting to be saltier as I spend time with you throughout my DAY! And allowing my Light to Shine brighter through a smile, a kind word, and helping others in need. I know you hear and answer prayer! In Jesus Name, Amen!
