Move the Wall!

2 Samuel 22:29-30 (NASB), “For You are my lamp, O Lord; And the Lord illumines my darkness. For by You I can run upon a troop; By my God I can leap over a wall.

Did you know walls can be built around your heart? Those walls create shadows and darkness where we can hide. There are MANY people who have walls built and they don’t even know it, or they get so comfortable within the walls and they don’t want them removed. That was me years ago, I didn’t know I still had walls that I was hiding behind. I had experienced a major loss in my life at 18 years old, and I decided I would never get attached or allow anyone that close to my heart ever again, it was too painful. Instead of my life being wrapped around Jesus, I wrapped my life around my boyfriend who was killed in a car accident only two months after our high school graduation. These walls will stop us from enlarging, hinder our growth and keep us from fulfilling God’s plan and purpose for our lives. We unknowingly get stuck because we won’t let God or other people in! And yet, we don’t understand why we aren’t growing and moving forward. Stop right here and ask Holy Spirit to reveal any walls you may have. Have an open mind as you continue to read, and prayerfully consider if this could be an area that change is needed.

Speaking of walls, in the natural sense there are brick and mortar walls, sheetrock walls, wooden walls, and false walls. Each of those walls are made from different materials, and have different strengths and purposes. But they all have the same effect and that is to separate and divide. You think your safer within the wall, but it creates a “false” sense of security. The longer the wall is there the thicker it gets, like a stone wall, and it becomes harder to break down. I expect you are NOW getting a download by the Holy Spirit just by hearing this and reading 2 Samuel 22:29-30! The word “wall” defined is this - to enclose, shut off, and divide.

  • Walls can be built by us.

  • Walls are meant to enclose, shut off and divide our heart.

  • Walls can arise as a result of negative words spoken over us.

  • Walls can arise from difficult circumstances, and past hurts.

  • Walls are a spiritual battle, but …

You are MORE than a conqueror and you are a WINNER!

Some walls can be moved immediately, some walls take time to move, just don’t QUIT. Keep pressing against the wall until it moves! Or, leap OVER the wall which now places the wall behind you.

In May of 2009, I was spending time in the presence of God, and I heard a word in my heart…”Wall Jumpers!” The Lord began to minister to me and explain what this new term meant. It’s a person who is NOT intimidated by a wall the enemy puts in our path. A “Wall Jumper” is moving with momentum and uses that momentum to jump the wall. “For by You I can run upon a troop; By my God I can leap over a wall,” 2 Samuel 22:30. Jesus is the one who gives us the momentum “that driving power and strength”. There is a tenacity, a don’t quit, a don’t sit spirit that wants to take on challenges! Is that you? Over the years, I’ve learned about myself. I’m a tenacious person, and in many cases I like a challenge! But NOT WITHOUT JESUS! And that can be YOU TOO!

Here’s the good NEWS…the walls don’t have to stay! As I already said, many times we don’t even know they’re there. It may take someone else to recognize and reveal the walls that are in your life. Back in 1993, while I was attending Calvary Cathedral International Bible College, a prophetic word was spoken over me by the Bible College director. It went like this: “It may be something from the past, but I see a wall. You are going to influence 100’s, and 1000’s of people. But the WALL must go, and the Lord is going to help you remove it. You may feel vulnerable when it is gone, but you need to let it go!” I shared with you what happened to me when I was 18 years old. Now an adult, I had no idea I was still hanging on to the past, and had “walls” hindering me from growing and moving forward with God, until they were gone! Then I could totally understand this word! I did FEEL naked when the walls came down! It’s when your heart has been re-OPENed that you feel vulnerable and naked! It may take a little time to appreciate it, but it’s a GREAT feeling to be FREE from the walls!

How do you leap over a wall?

(1) It starts with a REAL relationship with Jesus, spending time in His presence EVERY DAY,

(2) Allowing God to be your deliverer, give it ALL to Him,

(3) Growing in God by reading and studying the Bible, by listening to preaching and teaching of the Word of God,

(4) Being a doer of the Word of God,

(5) Trusting God,

Allow God to shed light on the dark areas of your life. Give Him your WHOLE heart! He will fight your battles for you like He did for David. And before you know it, the wall is BEHIND you or completely shattered! This blog isn’t meant to complete this exhaustive subject, but it’s a beginning. As in so many things, just get started, and watch what the Lord will do IN YOU as you ask Him to reveal any walls you may have in place, “ASK, and it will be given to you; SEEK, and you will find; KNOCK and it will be opened to you.” Matthew 7:7!

Prayer: Father, I am so thankful that I can continue to grow and fulfill the plans and purposes that you have for me. The Bible says, “what things soever you desire, when you pray, believe that you receive them and you shall have them.” I’m a believer and I’m asking you to remove any walls that I have unknowingly built around my heart so you can be FULLY in, and those that I love can be FULLY in. I’m ready to experience TRUE freedom in YOU! Thank you Lord for your unconditional love! In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
