Why Church? Part IV
Proverbs 3:5-6, NASB, Trust in the Lord with all your heart and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and he will make your paths straight.
Ok, so here’s a “BONUS” blog on “Why Church?” One more bit of encouragement when you find your church community and you want to get your children connected in the Children’s Ministry but have concerns or reservations.
TRUST- If God led you to the church you are attending, you can’t allow the enemy to cause fear, or offense to come between you and your children growing up in the house of God. I once picked up my firstborn son, Andy from his class as a 1 year old. There was a situation in Andy’s classroom that day and when I asked the teachers about it, they could not tell me what happened. I was very upset! I had a decision to make. Would I leave church over this? Would I allow this situation to stop me from placing my child in class ever again? That was my first thought! How can I trust these teachers who are not carefully watching over my son?
Do your homework, and make sure the ministry you are entrusting your children with have a protocol for those who teach in the classrooms, with background checks and personal references. Make sure they teach them the WORD of God and they are not just playing games all service long. Then relax and TRUST your Children’s Ministry team. Make a point to not find fault with the teachers, other kids or other parents. There’s no perfect place where children are being taught and trained. If there is ever a question or concern, make a phone call, talk in private to the teacher or the leader of the Children’s Ministry. Never question the authority of the teacher in front of your child. Value the teacher in front of your children, or you will cause your children to question those in authority as they grow up.
I understand it’s hard for first-time moms to put their children in the hands of someone else when they are young. But it’s important to start when they’re young; otherwise, they’ve already established patterns of having things their way. Children will contend for what makes them the most comfortable. Please thank the teachers who serve week-in and week-out in the Children’s Ministry. It’s the most rewarding and yet challenging ministry in the church. AND so worth the fruit that you will see in your children, even in their younger years!
End of the story . . . after the situation in Andy’s classroom, I heard the Spirit of God on the inside talking to me, and He warned me not to get offended. I chose to release my frustration and move on! God had given my husband, Robert and I a word when we first started attending our church. He said, “Be a part of the solution and not a part of the problem!” We joined the Children’s Ministry team, and you can too!
